Summer is finally here, hotter than ever!!!  For those of you in the Midwest and East there a lot of antique markets to frequent, hope you are finding some bargains out there. We'd love  to have some pictures of your finds.
Several of the McCoy collectors are also very irate about Larry McKinley (mcckoy4U2 - Kentucky blue grass country) and his art work on authentic pottery - he also doctors authentic McCoy pieces with  gold and fake decals.  Hopefully we are getting collectors to be aware of  his work but always find someone willing to bid on his junk.   BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!  Doug has a lot of photos on the website showing a lot of Larry's tampering results.

We had a collector looking for a white Comedy Tragedy Mask planter - if anyone has one for sale could you email me and I will put you in touch with the buyer.  This is to replace a gift that was  broken.
An inquiry from the web  site

"Hi.  I got your email from your website.  I'm trying  to find some information about a teapot by Shawnee. I think it's called Tom the Piper's Son.  It has a pig spout and a person's head for the teapot lid  handle. I'm just wondering about the pig on everything. Do you have  any information about why so many of the Shawnee things have a pig on them?

Thanks for your help, Kathy"

Response

Not sure why the pig is on so many items other than the Smiley and Winnie pig cookie jars  were among the first cookie jars - also being a Midwest novelty pottery I think the market appealed to so many - my cookie jar came from the Hawkeye Downs Fair  in Iowa - most of the distribution was dime store 1939-1961. I grew up  with a tulip Smiley pig cookie jar so when I began collecting I gradually gravitated to the pig items even though I always say I AM NOT A PIG  COLLECTOR-  lol.
Note - does anyone have any idea how the pigs did happen to be a main focus of the line?   Because of the locale for distribution the corn line was hugely successful. Hard to believe  these treasured pieces began as dime store novelty items!!!!  Did the company ever have a clue that some 50-70 years later a bunch of us would want every single decoration variation??????

I saw this Terrace Ceramic piece on Ebay. I found the lid interesting. Is it a mismatch, my first thought. The knob on the lid has the same drip glaze, maybe a true grease jar with the holes. OR is the lid actually the internal part of a perculator coffee pot with maizeware glaze?
I don't know why, but I find these glass pedaled lamps interesting. So classic 1950's. You see them in Hull pottery from time to time. If you have one in any pottery, please send me a picture.
I recieved this email, thought I'd pass it on -
