For the detailed history of Terrace Ceramics see Shawnee Pottery the Full Encyclopedia by Pam Curran, page 297. A very abbreviated version follows. When Shawnee Pottery closed, the American Pottery Co. ended up with the Shawnee molds. The Terrace Ceramics Co.of Zanesville, OH  was a marketing company that never actually made pottery. So, the American Pottery of Marietta, OH was the user of the Shawnee molds. It is not unusual to find pieces with the Shawnee numbers appearing on the bottom. Some show up with the word Shawnee still intact. The Maize-ware was made in two shades of brown and a pale green & yellow. The Smiley, Winnie, and Muggsy cookie jar molds were also used. The only color I've seen in these is a matte white (like a bisque) base with pink heads & black cold paint eyes. If you have anything else that is obviously a Shawnee mold that is marked Terrace Ceramics please email me.  < click to send email
