Shawnee Tales
Well, the dog days of August are here - is anyone out on the road tracking down Shawnee????  Thank goodness for Ebay for those of us not able to travel this summer.

I heard Pottery Festival is really dwindling. The high end pottery is still selling but fewer dealers and less pottery being offered for sale. I miss seeing the other collectors as it was always a big reunion with lots of sharing, both pottery and stories. So many of us still dabble with the pottery but not  fast and furious as in years past. The friendships continue throughout the  years!

A cookie jar collector sent in a picture of a Happy cookie jar she recently acquired - very striking jar. She collects variety of cookie jars but has been buying some nice Shawnee jars for her collection.
Like many of us Shawnee collectors, she also picks up Little Red Riding Hood. Louise Bauer designed for both Shawnee and later Hull.  Wish we could travel back in time and visit with the  workers in the pottery companies - think of all the questions we have that could probably be answered.

Many of you may be on Facebook and might have seen a post about the gold trim Sailor cookie jar that is in the Smithsonian - interesting story but several of us have been lamenting over how false information gets spread around.

Be sure to read to the paragraph below the picture.
Recently I purchased a gold sailor with no decals and a blank base - beautiful face on him - for me it was sentimental as my Dad is a WWII Navy veteran so I was pleased to bring this one home. Not sure of the story on this one but a great jar.
We are in the midst of our monsoon season with storms and high humidity - unusual for Arizona - my air conditioning went out during the night so awaiting the repairman, but sweltering in the meantime so am going to send  this off to Doug for his additions!

Everyone stay cool - happy  collecting.

With permission from Pam Curran, the explanation in her book, Shawnee Pottery The Full Encyclopedia, follows.
Do any of us truly believe Shawnee shipped blanks to CHINA during war time for decoration and then back to the USA?????  The absurdity let alone the expense is so far fetched.
My intuition says this is the facts of the matter. (Doug)
