Shawnee Tales
An update on my disappointing auction experience with Yoder Auctions in Wisconsin. They DID accept return of the repaired jar and finally credited my account. A few particulars - they charge a twenty percent buyers premiums AND shipping via Parcel Post uninsured  was charged at $49.50.
I paid $19 insured Parcel Post to return the jar -  received no response for them and they did not refund the return shipping which in my opinion they should have since the jar was substantially  misrepresented. Overall a very unpleasant experience so my last auction via Proxy Bid on live auctions. Too risky in my opinion - have other readers had any experience like this?????? Had no additional correspondence from them nor  acknowledgement of their receiving the jar. Picture of  the jar is below - had some irregularities on the bib with red hearts painted over - wish I could  have kept the lid :)
Love to see how collectors display their collection - here's a beautiful display of Shawnee jars.
Interesting paper memorabilia listed last month - something we don't see very often. I have often enjoyed finding paper memorabilia with vintage collectibles of interest. This is a kitchen photo of a Smiley pig on a stove top with a typical housewife of the era standing near it. I think often when we find a jar with dark stains inside the base, it is caused by jars being on stove tops and the grease settles in to the bottom of  the jar. Once in a while we will see heat damage that bleeds to the outside of the jar as well.

A post card that advertises for a barbecue place in Illinois has always been a treasured item in  my collection - the restaurant is California Brick Kitchens located in Oak Park, Illinois - advertising spareribs - Mr Spareribs.  What fascinated me when I discovered this is the jar in the advertisement has strands of hair and I had recently acquired a very, very similar jar, so a great go with!!!!!!!!.
Hoping everyone is having a great summer and rummaging through  some great
flea markets - let us know what you find.

Until next  month,

Summer time can be slow on Ebay but some prices seem to be holding up quite well.

On Ebay  there was an interesting plain light blue bib Smiley cookie jar - not a common jar but certainly went much higher than any of us would have expected, $337.50.

This week I had a question that was initially a little challenging. It went kind of like this -
Hello,
I was hoping you may be able answer a question for me.
Several years ago and we inherited two shawnee cookie jars. the one I am inquiring about is Smiley 60 with the bank head...I have seen these before online, however my bank head has a hat and I cannot find one with a hat bank head.
Do you know anything about it?  Is it rare and should be bubbled wrapped? How much it may be worth? any information would be helpful.
My normal response was - Please send pictures.
I pulled a pic from Online...to save time...the jar in question is the one on the left with the hat..
Now more than slightly confused I requested a picture of the actual jar in question.
First of all...thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.  Much appreciated!

attached you'll find the shawnee in question...and I think you may be right.. I may have 60 head on a 61 body ( sounds like a johnny cash song ).
It keeps life interesting.
