January  2005
Last year I did receive a cute Smiley Pig Christmas ornament - the tag reads Seasons of Cannon Falls - very cute likeness of our Smiley!
Shawnee offers such diversity in their line - I know some of you are predominantly jar collectors but you are missing out on some interesting pieces.  Smoking memorabilia is becoming quite the collectible even though smoking is not "socially correct" these days.  Shawnee has extensive cigarette boxes and ashtrays.  Naturally the arrowhead cigarette box and ashtray are the most coveted since the Indian arrowhead is the logo for the company.
One of my favorites is the panther ashtray - unusual design for Shawnee - I wish I could have located the two panther paw side pieces to photograph with this piece - a striking display as a three piece set.

Several years ago I asked a friend in Zanesville to watch for Stangl cigarette cases that I also collect.  He never found any but did find a black cigarette box that I would not have even known was Shawnee had I spotted it  - very difficult to get a good clear picture because of camera flash but note the stencil decaling all over the lid.
Several other cigarette boxes are featured in Pam Curran's Shawnee  Encyclopedia - the Kashani and Confetti lines..

Wishing everyone all the best in 2005.  If the newsletter is to continue I definitely need participation as can't support it with my collection alone.
