Another collector friend recently purchased a beautiful Winnie pig cookie jar on Ebay only to receive it along with a note from the seller which is a bit of history on the jar she purchased - what a thoughtful gesture..

I have always enjoyed hearing the history of jars I purchase - adds another dimension to the memories we gather with these wonderful pieces of pottery!  Amazes me that anyone could part with their family pieces. More often acquiring a family piece seems to bring in another avid Shawnee collector!

About fifteen years ago I purchased the Regal China Uncle Mistletoe cookie jar at a town square antique market that came with a newspaper article about the history of Marshall Field's and Uncle Mistletoe - on the top of the newspaper clipping the seller's Mom had written "This is the story on your jar!"  I enjoyed hearing about the history of the character who evidently was quite famous in Chicago and the East especially during the fifties through seventies.
We'd love to hear stories on pieces you have added to your own collections - looking for more contributions if this newsletter is to continue!!!

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays!

"Dear OOOOOO,

I hope you enjoy your new "Winnie". This "Winnie" has a special heritage, she part of the Vanderbilt Estate.

She was a gift to me from the Webber Family in 1991. I was told by Frank Webber Jr. that "Winnie" came from the Vanderbilt Estate on Long Island. Frank Webber Sr, long departed, a Golf Professional, worked for the Vanderbilt's on their private Golf Course in Newport, NY in Long Island and "Winnie" was given to Fred Sr by the Vanderbilts.

Take your time opening her, she is wrapped in heavy bubble wrap. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me.

Thank you and Happy Holidays,

Brian Werner
