SHAWNEE TALES

With all the nice weather collectors  are hitting the road and on the Shawnee
trail once again.  Springfield had their Extravaganza this past month - had
email reports from several collectors about their finds - some pictures were
sent in - the most unique find was the unusual tuxedo Smiley and Winnie
shakers -  take note of the under color of the peach bib on Smiley and the green
bib on Winnie - can't be certain as to when this decoration was done, sure
wish some of these pigs could tell us their story, but it is certainly unique
and a wonderful find.  We wish more of you would participate with sending in
pictures of your finds.
From the your finds department - a Blackie that doesn't live up to the name.
For those of you who collect the corn - are you keeping an eye out for the
rare Corn King casserole that has the kernels on the lid???  Only a few of
these have been found over the years, I only heard about them a few years ago
and have often wondered if I would have noticed the difference if I had ever
seen one.  I would hope so but sometimes when we don't specialize in a certain
line of the pottery, we don't notice variations the way others would. Hoping
Doug might have a picture to include with this issue.
Seems that Doug doesn't have a picture of this elusive piece. I never caught  up with one of these. As I recall there was one on Ebay years ago. Seems to me it brought top dollar at the time. In the pre-email days I use to talk to a guy in Alabama or somewhere in the deep south, that had talked to a lady in Atlanta or somewhere in the area that had two of these casseroles. Last I heard he was waiting for her to sell them. They might be full of okra gumbo right now, something I'll probably never know. If you have one of these casseroles please send a picture so I can post it in the next newsletter.
