SHAWNEE TALES MAY 2006

Hoping everyone enjoyed the new classified ads section last month - I heard
from several sellers that many items sold and also from buyers who were
thrilled  to take advantage of the listings.  It is definitely more personal dealing
with a small group of collectors that Ebay which can tend to be more
anonymous.  So much more to talk about with actual collectors than just sellers.

Morty did a terrific job on the lamps and it was wonderful to have someone
share their collection and information with the rest of us.  We would love to
have others do the same. Morty has added more on lamps.

I did hear about a terrific find at a garage sale - two Shawnee  grease jars
- one with gold and decals - BOTH FOR $20 - an absolute steal and  finds like
that are what keeps us out there on the  trail..............      Also, have a
collector  looking for the Muggsy cookie jar with the black brush strokes or
the gold brush  strokes if anyone has one for sale or knows of the
whereabouts of one, could you  please contact me.

Our Kentucky" McKoy dealer" had another doctored air brushed Bo Peep  pitcher
listed which sold for a ridiculous price - PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS and if
you are not sure, please email Doug or myself and we will try to authenticate
some of suspicious pieces being listed.  Better safe than sorry - it is one
thing to pay high for genuine pieces but to be ripped off on fakes is
sickening.  Same dealer had a fake gold sponged chanticleer sell for more than the
true vintage ones.  Makes us wonder if anyone is reading the  warnings!!!

Pottery Festival will be coming up in Zanesville in July - I will have
definite dates for the event for next months newsletter.  Lora and Larry  Short
plan to be there again this year and would like to have any of the Shawnee
collectors attending maybe get together for a visit - anyone interested or
planning to be there, please let us know.

I located these  bits of information online for general information on the
Pottery Festival  events:

Zanesville Pottery Festival

Zanesville, July 7-16,  2006 Each year Zanesville Pottery, Zanesville, OH,
hosts the annual Zanesville  Pottery Festival which celebrates the way things
used to be when Zanesville was  synonymous with pottery. Several area vendors
and producers set up shop on our premises offering bargains and selections
impossible to find anywhere else.  There are also hand-turning pottery
demonstrations, music, food, and pottery coin-toss. Easy to find location just off I-70
East of Zanesville.

Pottery Lovers Reunion

July  10-15            A  gathering of pottery lovers to buy, sell, trade,
and talk pottery with others  with like interests from all over the U.S. and
Canada – topped off with the  greatest show and sale of art pottery in the world.
Please join us  shopping the room at the Holiday Inn, Red Roof Inn and
Sunset Inn.  Also  the many shops in Zanesville.  For more information call Joe
Tunnel  423-652-2082, Janet Stofft 812-547-5707 or visit _www.Potterylovers.org_
(http://www.potterylovers.org/)

For  those of you who have never been, collectors & dealers set up along the
roadways, the Ceramic Center, at various spots to sell as well as sell out of
their motel rooms - each evening it is open house with lots of collectors
and  prospective buyers mingling and sharing information.  The local malls
prepare for this event all year long so there will be a wonderful selection of
pottery to entice the visitors.  Being in Arizona and not seeing a lot of
vintage pottery, it is an education - even not being a collector of Roseville,
Weller, McCoy and other potteries, the displays are absolutely mind boggling.
It is hard not to fall in love with other pottery lines - you  know are in trouble
when you find yourself gravitating to a particular pattern  in one of the
other lines.........

Until next  month,
