For anyone interested in receiving the newsletter by email, please contact me at Linromb@aol.com or ShawneeNews@aol.com - I will see if it is feasible to send directly but with spam controls am not sure it will work. I also hope to hear from many of you about how you started collecting - tales of terrific finds, etc - please help make this newsletter a continuing venture for all of us. Please visit the websites at:
Hope to hear from some of you about the new feature - would like some volunteers but may be calling on some long time collectors in hopes of getting this started next month - this needs to be a team effort.
Many of you that follow the Midwestern antique flea market circuit may know Danny Payton as a dealer who always has a wonderful selection of Shawnee - I met him years ago.  Over the years I hear about pieces he has found and sold from other Shawnee collectors.  While in Florida at the Renningers Antique market in mid January he was looking at a rifle and while handing it back to the other person, the gun discharged shooting him in the abdomen - he was hospitalized in Florida but is home now.. I found an article on Google by entering his name - recently several collectors have told me his recuperation is slow but he is improving.  Please keep him in your prayers.  Such a tragic accident.
The season is ongoing for all the major antique markets in the Midwest and East - when it comes to searching for antiques - Arizona is not the place to be!!!!!  Of course, I say that and yet a few weeks ago at a yard sale I found a Smiley creamer for $12 - but that is surprising as so many people didn't bring their pottery with them when they moved to Arizona!
There have been some interesting sales on Ebay over the past several months - specifically the solid gold Puss N Boots cookie jar that sold for $1178.00 - a beautiful and rare jar.  In solid gold cookie jars I have seen the Smiley, Sailor and Puss n Boots - have heard of a solid gold Winnie but never seen one. It is hard to photograph these pieces due to the reflective nature of the gold.

Since I love any variation in decoration or different decals, I am thrilled to find them on some of the decorated pieces - from Granny Anns, Bo Peeps, Chanticleers and Smiley range shakers - have even seen a Smiley cookie jar with the solid red lacquered bib though sadly not in my collection.  I did find a gold Chrysanthemum Smiley cookie jar though with the red lacquer caps on his shoulders!!!  Inserting several pictures here to show the decoration - sometimes in our hunts we fail to notice some of the differences in decoration.
