Shawnee  Tales
Cutting it close this month, it got away from me - I always try to give Doug time to post at his leisure!!!  Appreciate the responses to our requests for pictures!
Here is a nice assortment of the animal figurines with some special decals - and some that show gold only!  Years ago when some of the doctoring was going on I had never seen gold only and contacted several long time collectors to assure myself they actually were made that way!  Rest assured many long time collectors have found them all the way back to their early days of collecting. This is a great selection shown.
Years ago I had thought it would be nice to assemble a complete set of the plain figurines with their original Shawnee label displayed but didn't follow through as figured I would never find the deer with one - yet this past month one listed and sold on Ebay!!!! Never dreaming how these items would be collectible years later often purchases would soak off labels so always nice to find pieces with them still intact!
A friend recently started selling some of his collection and had the Polly Ann Popcorn set mint in the original box WITH the unopened can of popcorn intact.  Reminded me of years ago after work I was walking through a local antique mall and saw a dealer stocking her booth - she was setting out the popcorn bowls - we chatted a bit and then she tells me it is in such nice condition because she bought it in the original box.  I asked about where it was and she replied "Oh, I threw it away!"  OMG  - I could not believe someone would do that, heartbreaking!!!!
Hoping for more contributions and pictures for next month.  Always love seeing how collectors display their pottery!!!
  Until next month.

Back in February I took a ride down I-81 in Virginia. Started looking in Verona, ending up in Roanoke, just the big malls. There wasn't much Shawnee on the shelves. I took a few phone pics for the record.
Real Shawnee at book+ prices.
Almost a bargain, but had a small chip.
Repro junk.
