Hard to believe this year is almost over! I am curious as to what finds our readers have had this past year - if readers will send pictures of three to five pieces they added to their collection this year I will run the pictures and comments in the January newsletter Should be interesting - hope a lot of you will share.

Update on the local collection that was listed on Marketplace on Facebook -  assorted 30 pieces, but all pieces as well as parts were basic and items most collectors would have quite a few of - the person listed it at $1,000, then reduced it to $750 - still not a bargain. Well I referred a reader to the info and it was too many pieces he didn't need either - well lo and behold I got a notification at 11 p.m. the price has been reduced to $200. A steal for multiple jars, shakers, and creamers, even though common, a real deal. Of course it sold and unfortunately the guy I referred to it did not get it either. I guess the message to this it might be worth offending someone by making a lowball offer on a volume of pieces, but never could either of us have anticipated this. Hope a collector got it and not a dealer.
A long time friend and her daughter were antiquing and came across some nice pieces. Mind you, our kids were preteens when we first got to know each other through Pam Curran's newsletter years ago and now her daughter is a collector herself.
A collector sent in a picture of corn in original packaging - Terrace Corn set. Seldom today do we find original packaging with the pottery being sold and often when items were purchased as a gift or for use people discarded original packaging unless they put it on a shelf and never used it. Years ago while walking through an antique mall I saw a dealer putting out a popcorn set - in talking with her she mentioned it had never been used as she had bought it in the original box. Of course I asked about the box and she had thrown it out and if I recall had popped the popcorn. Yikes!
Also an interesting teapot I have never seen before sent in by a reader. This teapot is a prime example of "lunch time ingenuity". The base teapot appears to be a Fern pattern 6 cup teapot. The owner indicates 2 panels were sanded smooth and then the flowers were applied. The flowers are familiar underglaze type flowers. This is a great find.
Assorted display pictures - our collectoins add so much character to our homes - I have friends who live in homes that remind of models as there is no personal reflection of their interests !!!!
Hoping in 2019 most readers will contribute or Doug and I may have to go to every other month! Remember to send in pics of your finds this past year !
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year.
Until next month,

Let's revisit the watering birds in last month's newsletter. We've handle a number of these over the years, but have always passed on them. This doesn't mean they aren't Shawnee, but I've always leaned American Bisque. Although have never found them in an American Bisque or ABC book. The side U.S.A. mark is interesting. Off the top of my head the only Shawnee piece that immediately comes to mind is the White Corn one holed shaker. I'm pretty sure there is others - they just aren't coming to mind right now. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
A thought on buying large quanities of pottery - weight! You almost have to pick it up or meet 1/2  way. On this lot, shipping would likely cost as much as the pottery.

We will address ashtrays in next month's Newletter.
