Shawnee      Tales
Finally getting some winter weather in Arizona we need rain so desperately! It has been like a mild spring here - tomatoes are still producing from last Spring's planting - that has never happened before. Even my tortoise came out of hibernation with the warm weather.
A reader sent some pictures of items she found. It was a couple of months ago but we want to show them. Always fun to find items in original packaging, not too often anymore.
Thanks again for Cary stepping up and writing the article about Puss and Boots - love all the pictures!! Some really unusual pieces! Really appreciate the contribution.
Would like to hear your thoughts on the "hound dog" in the middle.
"Good afternoon,

As always, I'm enjoying the Shawnee Tales and seeing unusual pieces. The fruit piece from the most recent edition is interesting- a spoon holder?  Neat!

I thought I sent these pictures along a couple of years ago, but maybe they got lost in the shuffle.  A puppy figurine to ponder and a Kenwood clock in the box with paperwork.

Also, every now and then I come across listings for this clock (picture titled "unknown clock" - I have also seen it in white and yellow). The numbers look a lot like those in the ivy trellis clock. Has this clock come up before and any thoughts on whether it could be Kenwood?

Keep up the good work~"

Puss 'n Boots just celebrated her 73rd birthday as the original design patent was applied for on February 28, 1945, according to Pam Curran's Shawnee Pottery Full Encyclopedia.  The popular cat cookie jar also has compliment salt and pepper shaker set and PnB creamer.  There are several variations with the gold trim and decal cookie jars as well as variations in painting and decorating with the shakers.  The Puss 'n Boots cookie jar comes with both the long tail and short tail version in the original as well as the gold trim and decal versions.  There are so many variations in the gold trim and decal jars including hand painted and airbrushed.  Some of the jars have the typical burgundy bow and some that are gold trimmed have the white bow with gold trim around the edges.  Hunting the different variations makes collecting Puss 'n Boots exciting as you never know what you might find!

Here is a picture of the long tail version next to the short tail version cookie jars.
Here is the Puss 'n Boots gold trim and floral decal along with the matching creamer.

Here is an airbrushed gold trim and decal cookie jar with an unusual blue bow.
Here is a gold trim and large orange floral decorated cookie jar.
Different versions of the creamer including the eyes open and companion eyes closed as well as the blank creamer with the all golded cat.
Notice the different decorating versions of shakers and how the different colors were applied.
Also note some shakers were used as souvenirs.
Here are the airbrushed yellow and green creamers with one lonely shaker.
Best for last!  Peaches resembles the orange decal jar!

Until next month - happy collecting.
