Shawnee Tales
Busy time of year with the holidays upon us.  Arizona is still breaking records with high 80's - Thanksgiving Day tied the record for 89 degrees but we still had a comfortable dinner out by the pool.  Friends back East were freezing!  You can all give me a hard time next July when we are near or over 120!!!!

Terrific find this past month - a longtime collector discovered a piece that none of us knew about but it screams Shawnee. Now we need to find out if anyone has similar pieces - let us know if you have anything or have seen anything like this!
"Just when you think you have seen every piece of Shawnee Pottery ever made Linda and I ran into this piece today. Wondered if you have ever seen this Coffeepot over the years. Although no mark on the bottom I have no doubt it is Shawnee. The wheat pattern, right weight, right glaze style, right colors etc etc. I have never in the last thirty years ever saw this piece but I figured if anyone did it would be you. Interested in your take."

I have never seen or heard of this piece before but sure is a possibility.  Slight variation in the wheat but could have been an experimental version.  Handle is different but so much of it says Shawnee!

More on this find!

"This dealer has a ton of pottery pieces in a mall. She has been in there for over twenty five years and yes she has other Shawnee. She carries a lot of different pottery probably well over a thousand plus pieces and a lot are smalls such as figurines like the Shawnee animals and mini vases etc. She carries many different pottery brands so she is well versed in what is what and she usually has everything identified. I always keep an eye on her booth because I have bought other unique pieces before from her over the years. Actually this piece was buried on a lower shelf in the back of a book stand and I just caught the color on the lid and something told me to pull it out so I did. As soon as I looked at it it shouted Shawnee to me and that is what she had marked the piece as but I think she obviously had not found it in the books so she just attached a price on it that reflected the going market for existing Shawnee Pots. I knew when I picked it up that we have never run into it in the last 30 to 35 years. I told my wife that this is a rare piece of Shawnee. I did a google search tonight online and ran different phrases on Shawnee coffee and teapots, embossed coffeepots and teapots, wheat design teapots and coffeepots et etc etc. I searched thousands and thousands of images and no where did I find anything like it. Nothing with that handle style showed up. Nothing even close. Then I decided to compare it to the Penn Dutch coffeepot for similarities and bingo things fell in place. The metal grounds holder piece fit perfectly on both pots. The lid of the Wheat pot fit perfectly on the 52 base and the height of both base matches perfectly. I am sure the embossed Chrysanthemum coffeepot would come up with the same measurements and fit. This is definitely a Shawnee piece. The weight of the piece screams Shawnee. The inner lid lip screams Shawnee. The bottom of the pot with the glazed inner ring and glaze less bottom ring screams Shawnee and lastly the paint work screams Shawnee. When I wrote you I figured if anyone may of seen a similar one it would be you but I was surprised when you said you had not. After looking at all those pictures and investigating further I kind of felt could this be rarer then the Penn Dutch batter jug. I found that remember at the Harrisburg Glass show when we moved back from California. I know that only two of those have ever shown up and the one Penn Dutch batter pitcher that I found and sold was from Annville PA originally. This Wheat coffeepot really intrigues me because if they made a coffeepot in this pattern did they do any other pieces? Was this just an experimental piece that maybe got out of the factory. Only time will tell."
Pennsylvania Dutch batter pitcher mentioned above.

Three things - The 900+ pieces of Shawnee are still looking for a buyer/s -
#2 - Buyers beware, as seen on Ebay -
The truth of the matter here is, these pieces were all made by the American Bisque Pottery Co., NOT the Shawnee Pottery Company.  The pieces pictured below are all American Bisque (ABC).
The pigs too.
Last but not least, these were sent by a long time Rhode Island pottery collector.
