Shawnee        Tales
Have had a lot of questions about links to the newsletter so spent some time going over the wanted section and other information Doug has posted to
help identify pieces.  He really puts time and effort in on maintaining the web site so hope readers take advantage of it.

Delighted to have picked up a gorgeous gold chanticleer last week - I have a soft spot for them - a long time collector said they had one to unpack, still waiting to hear about it as hope to add it to my collection!!!!
I have been encouraging some of the collectors to watch the gold Bo Peeps and Granny Anns on Ebay as some are selling so low - definitely bargains out there to be had.  Definitely a buyers market on Ebay.  In this soft market some pieces still go for a pretty high value!

I saw a post on the site from a collector looking for a Smiley lid so decided to sort through the ones I have. I have a bedroom I refer to as the Shawnee room as it is wall to wall pottery as well as a bit of a catch all.  Well, interesting development -
Was in the bedroom sorting thru some lids when I spotted dried dirt on the carpet - the dogs are never in there and the door is always closed - got the hand held Dyson out and saw more under the chair - lo and behold my desert tortoise was burrowed all the way up to the cabinet - he could have been there for the winter as it is time for hibernating - hadn't seen him in almost ten days even with the rain we had which sometimes brings him out when the weather is so so - I figured he was in his tunnel - no idea how he got all the way to the back of the house without my Yorkie tattling - I went to the bank and post office one day leaving the back door open and it may have been then - no screen on the back so have to watch it.  He usually comes in goes left and crawls under the island counter. Animals!!!! Wonder if he would have stayed hibernating in there all winter - trust me there is only a narrow path on the carpet so he was limited - LOL. Sometimes I am not in that room for weeks/months on end...... I would never have seen him had it not been for the loose dried dirt particles.  Lucky he didn't go under one of the beds in the other bedrooms, never would have looked for him until Spring.
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.  Hard to believe the end of the year is fast approaching.  Have my shopping almost done already and even treated myself to a new Smiley, couldn't resist him.

For me it is always seems to be about the decals. This one is featured in Curran's book on page 39, listed as RARE - next month I will feature a couple of others that are extremely difficult to find as well, as they are not in the books.

A collector sent in some wonderful pictures for the Chrismtas season, the sidebars and below.  Hoping for more pictures of their collection for the January newsletter - hint!!!!

" My  husband started the Shawnee habit before I came into his life.    He was at an auction  and saw this beautiful blue Winnie Cookie Jar. He soon discovered that it belonged to the old lady sIttng off to the side.
He struck up a conversation with her and she told him how she obtained the cookie jar.   She had gotten it from her  sister as a wedding gift many, many years ago, and blue was the color of her kitchen..She was now going into a nursing home and had to downsize drastically.  My husband was touched by the experience  and purchased the jar and went home and began his research on  Shawnee Pottery .  From then on, it was about education of the products and hunting for the next piece! To date we have about 60 Shawnee cookie  jars and about 2500 other assorted Shawnee pieces.   We love  the beautiful  glaze and  rich colors! The thrilll of finding pieces that we do  not have is always sending us on fun adventurers!!  Thanks for letting us share our Shawnee story !!"
So appreciate the sharing - wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and we'll connect in 2017!
