Shawnee Tales
Feb 2016
by Lin Romberg
Already a month into the new year!  We had a nice response for pictures of Shawnee dog items.

A nice paperweight/figurine of Muggsy with excellent cold paint remaining and a daughter waiting for it to come to her sometime in the future - often family pieces are what start many of us collecting Shawnee!
Also reflecting back to the Scotty wall pockets -  gorgeous assortment of colors in them.

Assorted figurines and planters throughout the line - funny when I looked through the pictures I wondered about the gay nineties couple of the bike and realized there is a dog running along side.  Hadn't even given that piece a thought for this issue!
I had such a great response that I am holding back the Muggsy cookie jars for next month as have some wonderful varieties to share.  Would love additional pictures of any you would like to contribute for that issue.
This past month I learned of a site that sends out emails each Friday tracking prices paid for cookie jars - will send out a link as it is interesting to see what the jars sold for and the most watched.  It includes all cookie jars but always some Shawnee listed - was surprised to see some real bargains but we all know it is a buyers market right now.
I have always enjoyed looking through old magazine ads and paper memorabilia that features vintage pottery.  Not a lot featuring Shawnee.  One fun piece is the postcard featuring a restaurant out of Illinois - Oak Park and Evanston - Mr Spareribs  California Brick Kitchens.  I was excited to find it as have the Smiley with hair that is actually on the postcard.  Wish I could find more paper memorabilia featuring our pottery.  Would love to see any advertising readers might have of Shawnee.
Happy Valentines Day!

Until next month, don't forget to send in pictures and comments, we love to hear from you!

Years ago watching the movie Back to the Future I saw a Little Red Riding Hood cookie jar sitting on a kitchen counter - have always watched for other pottery in movies and TV - this past week on Shades of Blue  on NBC there was a Smiley pig cookie jar on the kitchen counter . Not often, but every once in awhile there will be a planter or a vase in the background especially on the retro films.

I received one response on the JO JO jar in question last month. It went like this -
"Some years back I bought ,on EBay , a jojo cookie jar.. When I got it it looked just like the one in your newsletter ...no mark on the bottom ... I eventually got my money back but it was a hassle. Seems that the jojo is one that they have solved the shrinking problem they had with their smiley pig cookie jars...which when you look at one it is obvious that it is a fake...once you know what the original looks like...  Thanks for your newsletter ..."
The second item - A reader is looking for a Spaniel Planter.
"looking for this planter in white with brown spots - i have the other 5 colors."
If anybody has one to sell I'll pass along the contact information.
