Shawnee  Tales

Summer seems to be breaking records in most areas.  I have family in Iowa who are sweltering.  Arizona is having a very dry monsoon season this year.

I heard from collectors who attended the Pottery Festival in Zanesville and they said there was a lot of nice Shawnee and wide assortment of all pottery.  Good to hear the annual event continus to be worth attending.  An unusual planter - the clown on the blocks was found.  I have never seen this piece in person.
A friend went to an estate sale specifically for a gold Muggsy cookie jar that he had seen advertised - was thrilled to pick it up for $100.  Beautiful jar.  Better buy than the one I almost got last year.  At that sale he picked up the large gold Muggsy salt and pepper shakers for under $15.
The same day I went to an estate sale here in Phoenix because there was a picture of a plain blue Winnie cookie jar - we just rarely see any old pottery at local sales.  She was $99 firm and had a brown smudge on her cheek that might not have been removable - I left her as no great bargain when you check prices on Ebay.  Fun to see one sitting out at a sale though.
Interestingly a friend sent some pictures of the apple Winnie cookie jar - some variations I had not seen before and we may have a raspberry or plum Winnie as the coloring is darker than most apples and might need to be differentiated - beautiful jar with the jade coloring around the pocket as well.
  My response:

I've never heard of the Winnies being classified as the variances - the raspberries on the Smileys are the raised buds painted pink instead of red like the clover bud.  The plums darker yet than the apples but have never seen many varieties of Winnies until yours with the darker jade. it is always the jade that classifies the apple and raspberries.

Years ago I recall another collector saying the apple and clover bud were the same Smiley - little did I know or he back then that there was a raised bud and a flat painted circle. We later discovered we were talking about two different jars.
Hope everyone is having some nice finds.
Until next month.
