A fellow Facebook collector made the long trek and was at the estate sale when it opened, he picked up a gorgeous Smiley with hand painted flowers. I think he said he got him for $100 - what a steal.  While not a dedicated Shawnee collector he has picked up more great finds in Shawnee - congratulations!!!!!!!  He so deserves it for the time and miles he puts in!!!!
I apologize for airing all this but it got ugly on Facebook with me being attacked when I did not instigate this   Doug and I have done this newsletter for years and always enjoyed our contacts - no compensation,  just the camaraderie of other collectors and mutual love for the pottery.

We had reposted the collectors Facebook post of original emails but at his request have deleted it.  You can see the pictures from the estate sale below and it is clear why for some jars ARE the most important thing.  After numerous attempts to get even partial items, he kept every piece.  For me there is not any jar more important than a friendship. This has been a valuable learning experience.    Most of my readers can attest that we have the collections we have because we collected when prices were high and we paid what it took to get the jars in our collection..... all of us enjoy bargains but collections are rarely built on bargains only!!!!.
Prices paid for my pieces:

2 Helen Hutula Tattletales  $131.00 each
1 Helen Hutual Gimme Girl  $340
Gold Shamrock Smiley  $76  (only duplicate)
Gold Smiley Green bib mum    $120
Gold Muggsy   $135
Regal Clown  $99
Regal Clown shakers  $13.50
Gold Muggsy range shakers $13.50
Helen Hutula pitcher $54

You can see why he is so eager to keep all of my purchases.  $$$$$$$$$
His purchases

3 Brayton mammys  $135 each
Yellow Brayton mammy $150
LRRH        $45
Debutante  Metlox pink $86
3 piece Helen Hutula pitcher, creamer, sugar    $135
LRRH sm flower on apron  $72
Am Bisque Dutch Boy and Girl highly decorates   $81 for the pair
Gold range Muggsy shakers $13.50
Muggsy range shakers $13.50
Regal Old MacDonald shakers $13.50
Gold Muggsy jar   $135
Red banded LRRH  $180
Howdy Doody bank $126
Large Poinsettia  $158
Gold Sailor $ 65
LRRH banks
These prices include the additional ten percent I negotiated because of the volume - an additional $260..
When they picked up the purchased items they were able to get another 40-45 more pieces - the Metlox LRRH, Weller Watermelon Mammy, Brush Boy Blue, almost the entire remaining LRRH including go withs, entire Brayton dog lines, the yellow Brayton mammy, Supnick Muggsy, Brayton Matilda and much more - up to another forty percent off so quite the haul. Much is being listed for resale which is certainly their perogative but not my pieces..............a Facebook post thanked him for the gold Muggsy range shakers - likely mine and the Muggsy jar with decals his Dad did not have, guess everything is for sale when a dollar can be made.

With the pictures you can see what a rush it was to see so many terrific pieces in one location - as I said a once in a lifetime sale..........

Moving on - On July 12 Mikelson held a cookie jar auction in Missouri - here is a link to the realized prices from the sale - disappointing as it reflects the soft market we see in collecting today. Great for buyers though!!!   Bookmark their site as they have repeatedly held the most reputable auctions and always reasonable on their shipping rates as well.  You can request to be added to their email list.
This great collection of Shawnee Pottery is up for auction on August 16, 2014. There are a couple of amazing and hard to find jars in this collection. Don't miss the auction and if you can't make it, be sure to bid online at ProxiBid.
Updates coming next month!

Until next month, happy collecting.
