Shawnee Tales
So far this year is not off to a great  start. I ended up in the hospital just after Christmas and lost a couple  of weeks getting back to normal. Now computer problems so this may be short as waiting for a tech to analyze why I can't sign on or load  programs!!!

We had a report on the elves in the December newsletter - they were made by Gilner. I have some that were my mothers and while I never thought they could be Shawnee, had no idea who made them. Nice to know - thanks to the readers who responded, we appreciate it.   December Newsletter

There was an unusual pair of green range shakers on Ebay earlier this month with painted  on shamrocks - not gold but not authentic, was sad to see someone paid $76 for them. A nice go with but definitely not authentic based on the pictures.
Interesting Tom the Pipers Son teapot  also sold - genuine but very unusual paint decoration on the base - might have been a lunch time piece - it had bright circles on the front bottom right. Curious if any of our collectors have ever seen one like this  before??? Everything else looks typical but what a unique piece. If one of our readers bought it we would love to hear about it and see pictures.
With all the tampering that has gone on with our beloved pottery, it is sometimes scary to take a chance on the unusual - so many sellers are honest but I am always on guard with a grandmothers piece or estate sale find on an obviously fake jar. Here is the description for the teapot.
"This is a Shawnee Tom the Piper's Son Tea pot. It is a more unique coloring than you may be used to seeing with gold trim, as well as red, blue and yellow circles. Dates to the 1940s I believe. I do not have exact information on this, as it is difficult to find anything about this particular one. It is in great shape, although a bit dirty, as you can see in the photos. I was too nervous to clean him up, for fear I would damage it somehow. Thanks for looking!
Here is the Q & A on the listing of the shakers -

Q: Has the clover leaves been painted on after or before firing??

A: Hello. I am not sure. This is the way my 92 year old  grandmother had gotten them. Nothing had been done by her. They've just been sitting in her china cabinet all these years

This may really be the case but it always sets alarms off with me.........    so many in the past have been scams.
So far this has been a crazy winter in Arizona - record breaking cold ten days ago - my fountain froze, then record breaking heat in the low 80's and now record breaking rain - the Valley roads are flooding and my yard is underwater!
Will still take our weather over all the cold and snow so many of you are dealing with. Stay warm and shop online :)  Send  us pictures!!!!!
Until next month.
