Shawnee Pottery Identification Books
We started collecting Shawnee in the late 80's. The first book we found on the subject was "COLLECTING SHAWNEE POTTERY" by Mark Supnick. Published by L-W Sales. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" 76 page paperback with price guide, in the $10-12 price range. The pottery price list has been updated a number of times. Due to it's size, an easy book to carry.
The next book to come along was "THE COLLECTOR'S GUIDE TO SHAWNEE POTTERY" by Duane and Janice Vanderbilt. Published in 1992, available through Collector Books. 8 1/2" x 11" 160 page hardcover with price guide, about $20. Planters were not included in this book.
Our next text was "SHAWNEE POTTERY" by Jim and Bev Mangus. Published in 1994, available through Collector Books 8 1/2" x 11" 256 page hardcover with price guide, about $25. Has updated price edition(s). Has good coverage of pieces.
Last, but certainly not least, "SHAWNEE POTTERY - THE FULL ENCYCLOPEDIA" by Pamela Duvall Curran. Published in 1995 by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. 8 1/2" x 11" 305 page hardcover with price guide, $60 cover, $52 at Atlantic Books, about $36 dealer discount. This one weights a ton, but has it all !

This was the first Shawnee Pottery book available, with two printings, 1977 and 1981.   I bought one on half.com last month (7-2007). A nice small book, 99% accurate. The 1981 edition is 5 1/2" X 8 1/2", with 63 pages. The price list is amusing. Author - Delores Simon , printed by Collector Books.
